ANNUAL GET TOGETHER     “TINTAGEL” GOLF DAY        BWA - FIXTURES

Last September the Club held its’ Annual Get Together at the WACA and this proved to be one of the best functions we have had so far. 

The facility is a prestigious and traditional venue and this coupled with excellent food and extremely interesting speakers – there were two speakers this year. All these things contributed to a wonderful and interesting evening. Some forty Members attended and were entertained by the information forthcoming from both Trevor Schumm and Tony Adamson.

Trevor spoke on the scouting aspect of selecting prospects for Major League organisations and the programmes that have to be set in place to justify the talent selected.  On the other hand, Tony spoke as a Father of a prospect, and how the family needs to protect and ensure that their son is fairly treated and   successfully selected by the organisation of choice.

This years’ Golf Day is on Saturday 15^th November at the Maylands course. Fees for the day will be $30 which includes your after game nibbles. The Club would appreciate it if you could complete the attached form and return it together with your fees as soon as possible to assist with the organisation of the event.

It is possible that some Members of the South Australian Claxton Shield Club could be visiting us on this day and for the series versus the Perth Heat on this weekend.

HUGHES IN WORLD ALL STAR GAME: - 16 YEAR OLD PLAYER SIGNED UP FOR PADRES

Welcome to the July issue of the Club Newsletter.

The big NEWS of recent times was the selection of Luke HUGHES into the 10^th USA All Star Futures Games, for the World Team. Luke is the 10^th Australian player to be selected for this important game for Minor Leaguers in the US.  Of the 10 previous Australian players to make the All Star Futures game, 8 have gone onto play in the Major Leagues.

In the first half of the U.S., season Luke has batted .333% for his Minnesota Double A team and has recorded 13 home runs and batted in 34 runs. Hughes is a graduate of the Major League Baseball International Australian Academy, on the Gold Coast, and is held each year for Australian up and coming young players from all States.

Recently, Corey ADAMSON, son of Hall of Famer Tony, was signed up by the San Diego Padres organization for a reported sum of US$500,000.00. This is the first step towards Corey’s long journey on the baseball scene in the United States of America. As with any opportunity in life, the next few years will be full of hard work but the rewards in the sport of baseball are extreme if you have the talent to perform. All indications suggest Cory will do the job and be a credit to himself, his family and to Australia. Good Luck Corey.

This year we will have a very interesting and informative talk for you that will enlighten you on the mysteries of how a talented young baseballer is selected to go to a USA Baseball Organisation, and how the parents are involved in this process.

Once again Club fees are due and you will notice that the cost remains the same as previous years. We have not had any new suggestions from Club Members for possible Club functions, since our last one, which was in January at Baseball Park on Tom Bateman Reserve. Remember, it was when the Perth Heat beat the Victorian Aces in the Claxton Shield series.

DECEASED MEMBERS

AUSTRALIAN WOMENS TEAM WIN IN USA CLASSIC

During this year we have recorded the passing of two of our esteemed Club Members.  In February we lost Moggie McGOWAN, a former South Perth and State player (1946), and in May from the Victoria Park Club, Bill Shaw, (1946 & 1947). Our condolences to the families of both these Members.
